Mic Check

As I sit at home, day after day, retrieving unnecessary snacks for my crippled (read: on crutches) sister, relentlessly job hunting and googling the goog-able, I often contemplate starting something like this. An open forum for me to ramble, rant, and just plain (w)rite. Naming it is what held me back the most, as endless potential titles pranced around my head and none seemed quite good enough. Recently, as the family was enjoying a grilled dinner of burgers and dogs with all the necessary accouterments, and I scraped my corn off the cob into a delicious but slightly less than appetizing looking mess of butter, mustard, mayo, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, adding each as though I was calculating the proper amounts in my head, my mom turned to me. Young and hungry, she said. She’s never been more right. I am and will continue to be, for as long as I can get away with it, young; and as I continue on my eternal search for the insatiable: hungry. Though I had picked my name, I realized it wasn’t that easy, as this name was already taken by a middle aged Indian man who has written one entry in 2007 consisting of an assortment of jumbled letters. Though I am unable to use it as my blog title, I am now using this description for all things me. I racked my brain for another name, and another, and another and was told by blogger each and every time that it was taken. Feeling like I might never have an original thought again, it was dinner time at the Halpern house yet again, and with 6:30 came inspiration. Sushi! My mom squealed with delight. “It’s Monday”, I not so happily replied. And whether it is my faith in Anthony Bourdain and his thoughts on the issue discussed in my foodie bible Kitchen Confidential, or my mom uttering it every Monday that I inevitably want fish, it all became clear like that magic moment when a hangover wears off. And so I logged into blogger as I had so many times before, and low and behold, the name was available. And so, I begin my blog; which to me sounds more like a puddle of what happens after a night of too many rum and cokes than something I want to write my feelings in; but here goes. Expect most entries to revolve around food, with random thoughts or youtube clips making cameos, for I often digress and am simultaneously in love with the word cameo. Thank you Cher Horowitz.
